Over the weekend of 22-23rd March, our Yr5/6 boys embarked on their sports tour to Manchester with visit to Scarisbrick Hall & The Manchester Grammar School, for football & rugby fixtures respectively.

Scarisbrick Hall were first up for the boys in a Friday afternoon football fixture. Fielding 2 teams from the 19 boys on the tour, AKS Yr6 boys & Yr5 boys both recorded victories with some fine, free flowing football and goals a plenty for both teams, showing fantastic attitudes all round.

Friday night saw the boys dine at Frankie & Benny’s and then took to the bowling alleys at the Trafford Centre for some fun competitive games, even the PE Staff members found time to get in on the action.

Saturday was a glorious morning for sport and making the short trip to Manchester Grammar for a further 2 games of rugby, the Yr6 Boys faced a tricky encounter with MGS looking to dominate the play. In a thrilling first half encounter AKS held their own and were rewarded for their efforts with a try as they went into the break.

In the 2nd half MGS looked to apply more pressure onto AKS defence and scored consecutive try’s virtually winning the game early on, not to be down beat AKS boys rallied and were rewarded with further tries and some great plays of attack abs defence rugby. Our Yr5 boys held their own against their MGS opponents and with a strong second half performance managed to secure a draw after it looked like they would be beaten, some great performances and promising signs for next years squad in Yr6.

Saturday afternoon saw the boys and PE staff members take to the slopes and head for Chill Factore for some more fun and team bonding on tour, with the luge, do-nuts and sledging to keep the boys entertained.

All boys who came on tour behaved impeccably and represented the school on and off the sports field in true AKS way, we’ll done to all players. A big thank you also to Mr Walmsley, Mr Holmes and Mr Matthews who supported the boys & Mr Moretti over the 2 days, great experience for all concerned and a good basis for future tours.

Thanks must also go to both Scarisbrick Hall & The Manchester Grammar School for hosting ourselves and the fixtures so well.
