AKS U15s travelled to Birkdale to play in the semi finals of the Lancashire Plate. On a small pitch against a big physical side, AKS rolled up their sleeves for the afternoon of tackling. Birkdale started strong with their big runners battering away at the AKS defence. AKS showed great character in knocking the attack back time after time. However the pressure eventually told with Birkdale taking the lead. AKS soon hit back with good hands and quick recycling of the ball to cross in the corner. Birkdale finished the half strong with another try to make the score 14.5. In the second half and with the wind at their backs, AKS narrowed the gap with a chip over the defence, to collect and cross in the corner. Both teams worked hard to gain ascendancy, and exchanging tries. With 10 minutes to go AKS score to bring it back to 31, 24 and with wind in their sails, we looking for another try to bring the score level, but despite coming very close, Birkdale managed to gold out to the final whistle. It was a fantastic performance from the squad and a positive end to a tough season for the group.
