AKS v Altrincham GS
KO 10 am
2 x 30 mins
Score: 1 - 7
The game started in terrible weather conditions, so both teams could be forgiven for not showing their best in the early exchanges. It soon became clear that Altrincham were much better in their ball retention and passing and moving. They also had some players with good dribbling skills who were willing to test themselves against us.
The first half was close and AKS punched above their weight forcing an indirect free kick in the opposition penalty area due to an illegal pass-back following some great pressure. Will A, on his 2nd attempt, buried the shot top middle bin! The half finished 1 - 2 and things were looking good as AKS finished the half strong!
The 2nd half was a different story altogether. Altrincham upped the intensity and started moving the ball quicker, they did not allow AKS any time on the ball and kept it well forcing AKS to chase and chase and defend a lot which took it's toll in the latter stages.
Joe was fantastic in goal and made a bucket-full of saves, Ollie was immense in defence as was Charlie in midfield. Will A was left stranded upfront as AKS struggled to keep the ball.
Eventually the pressure told and the goals began to go in. A couple were messy defensive mistakes, but others were fine goals scored thanks to the skills shown by Altrincham's forward line.
The match was played in great spirit and both teams should be proud of their performances. And as if giving it's own verdict on the match, the weather turned beautiful at the end with blue skies and sunshine!
